Projects

  • EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS – each year the Club dedicates funds that it raises to supporting local education. Our Dictionary Project supplies every third grader in Ansonia with his/her own personal dictionary. The Club often has supported Back to School efforts in the community by purchasing school supplies for one or more students. A $1,00 Scholarship is awarded each year to a graduating Ansonia high school senior matriculating to higher education.
  • COMMUNITY PROGRAMS – the Club supports civic service efforts through recognition and support as well as personal involvement. Each year the Club sponsors a Community Service Awards Dinner to recognize outstanding first responders in the Ansonia Police, Fire and EMS departments. The Club also has maintained plantings and improvements to Haddad Park and added a standing clock to the downtown green space. In 2021 we raised $9,200 in conjunction with Seymour-Oxford and Derby-Shelton Rotaries and TEAM Inc. to stock area food banks with fresh food.
  • International Project Support – Periodically the Club will provide funds for the world-wide fight against polio that began over forty years ago. That effort has been supported in recent years by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation in recognition of its extraordinary accomplishments. Members also donate to the Rotary Foundation which supports an array of efforts throughout the world, such as providing water purification units in Africa.
  • Music Mends Minds – In 2019 Club members Judy Nicolari began a program to assist local residents coping with Alzheimer’s and memory affliction using a program prototype begun in California. With help from the Valley Community Foundation, the biweekly musical program was up and running at the Ansonia Senior Center. Nursing homes in the area bussed residents to the sing-a-longs.https://www.musicmendsminds.org
  • Thanksgiving Food Drive – For five years, the Club has partnered with Liberty Bank to raise funds for the K. Samela Food Pantry at Christ Church.
